Lovely View
Friday, March 12th, 2010Now, what wouldn’t I give to have a view like this in my home:
I have always dreamed of having my own version of paradise right within the confines of my home. One that would not give me a reason to go out of town to unwind or relax, because I can do it right at home. Pools and jacuzzi tubs are considered to be a great addition to homes in upscale properties. It is almost always a given that they have one. In Florida, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Arizona and California, a swimming pool is a must have to help people beat the intense heat of summer.
When you decide to have a pool at your house, you need to make sure that you consult it with your project architect, who always contacts or refers you to a landscape designer or architect so that they can give you the necessary materials to be used for walkways, posts and tiles in the area. It must be safe, non-slippery, and must be manageable in dry and wet conditions. Landscape Design should not be taken easily – it requires a great designer to be able to come up with a great aesthetic place which is functional as well. As you can see in the picture above, not only is it beautiful to look at, but the walkways go in a circle and not steep enough for kids. There is also a patio umbrella with seats for lounging around. It is perfect for parties and BBQ lunches!

SSD’s Treat of the Month: Rubia Padhila
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010I love SSD’s TOTM – if you look at her gallery, you will notice her eclectic and eye catching style right away. I love how she fills them all in with bright colors, contrasts, details, amazing alphas and it still looks so well put together.
I used one of Darcy’s Inspired by Rubia templates – easily my favorite!

A Fighter for Justice
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010Remember when kids always answer police, doctor or teacher whenever they would be asked what they want to be when they grow up? Well, sadly, almost 90% of them change their minds when they grow up – but that 90% changes amibitions within the three fields only. I have always been perplexed on how the justice systems works and it takes a lot to be familiar with all the laws. That is why I admire lawyers, police and investigators. Fighting crime, keeping peace and order and laying one’s life down the line is one thing but you also have to have the brains to deserve the job. Earning a criminal justice associate degree at Northwestern College would be your best bet in starting the field right. Those who have earned their degrees in this area are often involved in homeland security positions, by protecting private property and aiding in the investigation of criminal activity.
If you are thinking of making a go for it, thank you – for protecting our community, even in the future. I appreciate it, for my kids.
Disaster Preparedness
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010This is what schools and offices prepare students and employees these days – disaster preparedness. Whereas before people from all walks of life are taught what to do in emergency situations, they are now taught how to deal and be prepared for disaster. The past years have gifted man with disasters in epic proportions – earthquakes, storms and city flooding reaching two stories high and tsunamis. These types of occurrence is something we can never really prevent, but as the title says, we can always prepare for.
For one thing, the government has advised all homes to prepare a disaster kit for each member of the family, a waterproof bag or plastic that has the following: a bottle of water, flashlights, extra batteries, a set of clothes, crackers, medicines, and your essential documents. Pelican Cases molded plastic containers that seal with an airtight and watertight gasket.
There are now even micro cases that can hold and protect your cell phone, photographic camera, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA), electronic games, pager, radio, and other valuable small items – we are all in the electronic age and most of these are now counted as valuables. I would invest in one for the family just in case.
Hair Talk
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010I have had this long (down to my back), straight (read: lifeless), uncolored (clarification: left uncolored for months so my roots are showing) hair for months. I haven’t cut my hair in over a year and it is just screaming for a change. I have planned to have it curled (I have been dreaming of curls since two years ago) but now that I have achieved the length I want for it to have curls, fickle-minded me wants to have it cut! Hairstyles for summer are short layers because one would spend less amount of time having it dried and if you have treated hair, being out in the sun will be damaging to it. It is also perfect to have it grow long in time for the cooler months.
I checked out the Latest Hairstyles and it seems sexy layers, long lengths and sideswept bangs never go out of style. I might as well have it curled to be able to experience it. As one friend advised, if it doesn’t suit me, I can always have it cut. If I cut it now, I will wait another year to find out if it suits me.
Hair Styles involving curls require one thing: volume and control. I think I am in need of hair products soon! I will post about it soon (or scrap about it why not!) once I have my long-delayed curls!
My Boy
Saturday, March 6th, 2010What would be a page about my guy if there will no page about my boy? I scrapped about him a lot this past week – I was trying to finish his second grade album (he is just about to end third grade!) and I am 75% done. I would not do it again though – a few spreads per school year will be in his album since 1) It takes a lot of work 2) It’s impractical and 3) His sister is going to be in school next school year and I know I would not be able to keep up! I just need to have an album done because he participated in a lot of school activities that year.
I had my son when I was two months short of turning 20, so I didn’t have any health care insurance nor life insurance. I am thinking of getting my life insurance quote soon – he is turning 10 and me 30 by the end of the year so I better start now!
Here are his pages, more to come!

My Guy
Saturday, March 6th, 2010I have been scrapping a lot of boy layouts lately. I did some rearranging on my scrapbooks a few days ago and realized with a pang of guilt that my son is so much behind on pages compared to my daughter, not that he has been cooperating lately. He has been in school for most of the day for the past two years and it is just so easy to take pictures and just “be with” my little princess. My husband also has about 10 pages out of the 600 I have printed – so I told myself I need to try to make pages about them.
Making pages about my husband is harder, since I always seem to be lost for words, and everyday life with him is far and few in between because he works in the city. So I just scrapped what felt like scrapping, after all, this guy – he doesn’t give me the whole world at my feet – no diamonds, no shoes, no bags no fancy dinners, but he gives me himself, focus and all. I doubt few men can offer themselves up like that. And for that I am grateful. After all, before we had kids, he was my everything.
Have you scrapped the men in your life lately?
Take Out Tuesday on the SSD Blog.
Thursday, March 4th, 2010I hosted this week’s Take-Out Tuesday and Libby made a beautiful word art that is yours for the taking – grab it here!
I love quotes. Sometimes, when you are at a loss for words or just couldn’t find the right words to say, quotes are perfect and complete the page for you!

Here is what I was able to come up with:

Dreaming of the Beach
Thursday, March 4th, 2010We have record breaking temperatures here lately. The hottest day of the year, so far, was recorded yesterday, at 35.6C and it is expected to reach the 40’s by April. Talk about deadly. Friends have been talking and planning (and dreaming nonstop) of taking a vacation and just heading down the beach to cool down, make use of the sun and get tanned. While I am not a fan of the heat, I love being in the water. Plus I can see myself lounging in one of those Adirondack Chairs under a sunbrella sipping my favorite fruit shake, reading a book. That would be an awesome time for me.
While I cannot go to the beach right now as I am swamped with work, I can bring the atmosphere of that vision in my backyard, sans the pool. There is a 30% sale off sunbrellas and chairs at Customer Cushions right now (www.customcushions.net) and you can have an Outdoor Bench Cushion made for your chair too! You can be guaranteed to be able to order a cushion at any size, thickness and color of fabric.
I personally love this style and the orange color of the cushion just screams of energy and happiness to me:
